Campus Continues Expansion

July 28th, 2010

College of the Canyons first opened its doors at the Canyon Country Campus in the fall of 2007 to meet the needs of the east side of the Santa Clarita Valley.  The campus currently has 28 classrooms and five labs, along with offices that offer the same student services as those on the main Valencia campus.  The campus is made up of portable buildings but COC officials expect to build seven permanent structures that total over 240,000 square feet.  The first such building is the Applied Technology Building that will house career-technical programs like automotive technology.

Lundgren Management is the Construction Manager for this project and is quite familiar with the campus after overseeing it's initial construction almost three years ago.  The Applied Technology Center is a two-phase project.  Phase I of the project is complete and consisted of infrastructure (utilities and roads) improvements.  Phase II began with the approval of the plans by DSA and the awarding of the initital construction contracts at the June 23 board meeting.  Construction is underway at the site with completion of the project anticipated in mid-spring 2011.
