University Center Opens with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

November 2nd, 2009

Just two-and-a-half years after breaking ground, one of the most ambitious ventures ever undertaken by College of the Canyons was celebrated on October 17th with the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center. The ceremony took place at the entrance of the new center overlooking the 154-acre College of the Canyons Valencia campus.

The first of its kind in California, the 110,000 square foot, high technology center is a place where several four-year universities offer their bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs to students right here in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The new University Center is situated on the southwest corner of the campus overlooking Interstate 5 and has 23 so-called “smart” classrooms, two computer laboratories, six meeting/seminar rooms and a lecture hall/theater. Additionally, wireless and video teleconferencing capabilities exist throughout the entire building.

Lundgren Management was the construction manager for the $38 million facility. Previously, Lundgren managed the construction of College of the Canyons new Canyon Country Campus and the Aliso Laboratory and Lecture Hall.
