Glendale Community College held a long awaited open house on August 29, 2007, for the newly completed Health Sciences and Technology Building.  Officials, trustees and benefactors toured the recently completed $17-million, state-of-the-art facility that is now home to the college’s nursing program, the digital arts programs and the facilities operations branch.

The three-story, 38,000 square foot structure, was delivered by Lundgren Management on schedule for the college’s 2007 summer session.  The new building is the result of generous donations from many sources in the community and is 60 percent funded by the state, (including Bond Measure G).  The building is named for long time Glendale resident, Bhupesh Parikh, who donated $1-million to the project.

The new facility showcased some high tech props that are being utilized as instructional tools in the health sciences and the digital multimedia programs.  Attractions included simulations with mannequins, exhibiting critical and “normal” medical conditions for the nursing and EMT students.  The digital multimedia program displayed 25 computer stations, equipped with the latest Mac computers for digital animation.  “These are very fast, very high-powered computers,” said Robert Kibler, the department’s chairperson.

Audre Levy, the college’s superintendent and president, said the new building will give students the tools to obtain competitive jobs.  “It’s a way for students to realize their dreams,” she said.
